To the participants is given the possibility of choosing the type of stone (marble, granite and limestone) and dimensions. (Eventually, other materials can be used, in which case sculptors must give detailed description).

Caldas da Rainha does not have a stone industry. The closest stone industries that we have are the limestone quarries in Serra D’Aires e Candeeiros (about 40 Km). In order to provide stone as demanded by artists we ask for sponsors at the quarries in the south part of the country, namely in the Alentejo region. There are the most important stone industries of Portugal with special emphasis in marble and granite quarries. Although we don’t establish limits to the size of the blocks used, we need to make an assessment of the logistic implications that sometimes they bring (it is difficult to handle blocks over 20 tons). Until present day we have been able to respond to most of the requests for the type and size of stone, thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, knowing that in some cases (especially marble blocks) is very difficult to get them, either for logistic problems or to the cost they represent.
